"The only way to do great work is to love what you do." - Steve Jobs

Central University held a webinar entitled “Career and Job Opportunities in the
field of Accountancy” for its Grade 12 ABM students who are planning to take up
the course in college. Mr. Victor Dorongon was our guest speaker and he
explained how the course went for him and how he managed to graduate and pass
the board exams with flying colors. He was well-spoken and passionate during his
talk, and as it seems, his passion for accountancy and teaching goes way back
during the time he entered college. Mr. Dorongon discussed how we must exert a
lot of effort from the very first day we step into college, burning our
eyebrows until we finally understand topics that we are confused about. He told
us how we must be prepared enough to take the board exams since the licensure
examinations for accountancy is one of the most difficult board exams in the
country. Yet at the same time, his message also implies that we should just
enjoy the journey while we are at it, and embrace accountancy wholeheartedly.
For me, accountancy was intimidating
since it involves huge sums of money and auditing. While it was my dream when I
was younger, I had doubts just when I was about to enter senior high school. I
discovered before that mathematics is not really my forte, so I was unsure
about taking up ABM and eventually, accounting in college. Yet Senior High
School and FABM proved to me that it can be enjoyable as long as you fully
understand it. It can be frustrating at first, especially when you discover
that you are missing a few centimos to balance the accounts. Yet there is the
feeling of fulfillment once you get it done, and the next time you try, you
feel motivated enough to balance it on few tries. That same sentiment is what
struck me the most during the webinar. It might not be directly stated, but
accountancy can be a trial-and-error practice. No course is easy, but this one
can especially prove to be difficult. Yet if you back down, that means you
failed, because you have not really tried. Alongside your knowledge, there is
also what we call passion. Being passionate enough and preparing ahead of time
can help in surmounting the challenges that may hinder us when we take up the
course. Mr. Dorongon had that in him, and he reached great heights. He enjoyed
accounting despite being confronted by difficulties because he embraced it and
he was motivated enough to learn even if he fails. His example left a great
impression on me. And I believe that with faith, passion, and as he says, luck, those who plan on taking
accountancy will be able to carry on and achieve a lot in their journey.
Accountancy is a flexible course and is very in demand as there are a lot of people establishing business nowadays. Even in our daily lives, it can be beneficial, especially with simple budgeting and accounting our expenses. It might seem boring when you see it, but the hardships are worth it once you get to balance your accounts. Therefore, even before we take a step into the accountancy course, we must prepare ourselves for what is in store for us. The road will surely be rocky, but if we are ready to tackle it, and the burning passion is ignited within us, then we will be able to breeze right through it (with a few mishaps and mistakes, for sure).
